2025 Mathematics UK Editorial Board Meeting—11th June

In June, we hosted the first Editorial Board Meeting for all UK-based EBMs for the journal Mathematics (ISSN: 2227-7390).

The meeting took place in Leicester over the course of an afternoon, and was filled with productive discussions concerning the key questions surrounding the future of the journal. It ran as a hybrid event, with a total of 12 Editorial Board Members joining online and in-person. It was the first event of its kind, allowing the Board to come together and share their ideas about the future of the journal in a single space.

After a detailed presentation from Journal Relations Specialist Doris Larisa Albu, introducing both MDPI and the journal to the attendees in more detail, the group moved on to discuss 5 core questions:

1.    What does the Board think about the journal’s section restructuring

2.    How should the journal handle submissions from authors with a history of retractions?

3.    How should the journal handle cases of AI tools failing to detect plagiarism in manuscripts that have been translated from a different language into English?

4.    What additional strategies does the Board recommend to strengthen our position in the WoS and Scopus databases?

5.    How can the journal improve its value in REF, and its wider reputation?

The feedback we received throughout the meeting helped us to understand the questions from a variety of perspectives, and each was debated in depth by all of the attendees, both online and in person.

We look forward to hosting similar events in future, and thank all of the Board Members who spent the afternoon with us.
