MDPI Mini Grants (UK)

Supporting academics and strengthening the research community

As part of MDPI’s ongoing commitment to supporting the UK research community, MDPI is pleased to announce the launch its new Mini Grants initiative.

These grants are designed to support those in the scholarly community by funding non-research-based activities. They serve as a source of support and recognition, helping to strengthen and sustain the research culture within UK universities and research institutions.

The Mini Grants scheme will launch with three grants of £500, being awarded to individuals or teams at UK universities or research institutions. These grants are intended to benefit PhD students, Early Career Researchers, and the staff who support them, through non-research-based activities.

Examples of these activities may include:

  • Refreshment breaks for a journal club or PhD students’ communal area

  • Outreach activities to communities, e.g., science fairs and conferences

  • Soft-skills training courses or sessions

  • Teambuilding or field trips to museums (not directly related to research)

  • Campus projects engaging the local non-research community, e.g., participation in local cultural festivals and activities.
