Academic Publishing Workshop at the University of Manchester: The Manchester Forum in Linguistics (MFiL)

Updated: 2 days ago

On 2nd May, three colleagues from MDPI UK attended the Manchester Forum in Linguistics at the University of Manchester to represent the journal Languages (ISSN: 2226-471X).

At the forum, the team presented an Academic Publishing Workshop to the attendees, covering topics of MDPI and open access, the editorial process, and potential careers in the publishing industry. The workshop was received incredibly well, and attracted 20 attendees who were engaged throughout.

After the workshop, the team joined the attendees for a networking lunch, where they spoke in more depth about the content of the workshop, and answered a number of questions that arose. We had a table in the break room, from which we gave out some gifts and flyers to the attendees.

In addition to this, Languages sponsored a CHF 300 award for the best poster presentation at the forum; it provided the winner with a certificate alongside some gifts in an MDPI tote bag. We were unable to deliver the gift personally, as the award winner was not able to attend the post-workshop networking, but we are pleased to have had the opportunity to support the creative work of students at the university.

Since our UK office is based in the heart of Manchester, we are always keen to collaborate with the city’s universities and develop our relationships with them as much as possible. The Manchester Forum in Linguistics provided an excellent opportunity to achieve this, and we look forward to collaborating further with the university and the linguistics department in the future.
